Wilcox County Superior Court Overview

Georgia's Superior Court is the constitutional trial court of general jurisdiction. Wilcox County Courthouse Context

Wilcox County court work centers on the courthouse at 103 North Broad Street in Abbeville. The City of Abbeville says the courthouse was built in 1903 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. GSCCCA provides a practical driving note: from I-75 and Exit 280 in Cordele, go east 30 miles to Abbeville; at the first traffic light or intersection, the courthouse is on the left.

Wilcox County was created in 1857 from Dooly, Irwin, and Pulaski counties. ACCG states the county was named for General Mark Wilcox, a state legislator and one of the founders of the Georgia Supreme Court. The county seat, Abbeville, was named by early settlers in honor of Abbeville, South Carolina.

Wilcox County Federal Court Distinction

Federal cases are not Wilcox County Superior Court cases. Wilcox County federal trial matters are assigned to the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Georgia, Macon Division.
